The School Day
There is no parental parking available on-site. We ask that our neighbours are respected when parking in the local area; please ensure driveways are kept clear and children are supervised while walking to the gates.
We encourage families to walk to school whenever possible.
We ask that children are not left in the school carpark before 8.40am as they will not be supervised, and this creates a safety issue.

Absence & Attendance
Our Expectations
Most children can, and should, aim for 100% to reach their full potential.

Reporting an Absence
If your child is unwell and cannot attend, please contact the school office by 9:15 at the latest. When your child returns, send a written note to the class teacher confirming the dates and the specific reason for the absence.
Timeliness is vital for a smooth start to the day. Children arriving after the start of the day are marked as late. Registers close 10 minutes after the school day begins. Arrival after this point is recorded as a half-day unauthorised absence.
Absences are marked "unauthorised" if the school is not notified or if the reason provided is not accepted.
Managing Poor Attendance
The staff and Governors at King’s Wood School are committed to helping every child succeed. Continued poor attendance will trigger the following formal process:
-
Initial Concern: Warning letters sent to parents.
-
Evidence: Requests for formal medical evidence for absences.
-
Support: Parent Contract Meetings to address barriers to attendance.
-
Home Visits: Conducted by our Family Liaison Manager (often on the first day of absence).
-
Escalation: Referral to the County Attendance Team, which may result in fines or court prosecution.
Leave of Absence & Holidays
Holidays during term time will not be granted. Any such absence is strictly unauthorised. If you must request a leave of absence for exceptional circumstances, you must still notify the school.

Arrival and Departure
To ensure a smooth transition between home and school, we ask parents to follow these procedures:
-
Gate timings: Gates open to children and parents from 8:40am to 9:15am. The gates open for collection at 3:15pm.
-
Late Arrivals: Any child arriving after 8:50 must enter through the Main Reception and be signed in by an adult.
-
Collection: If there is a change to who is collecting your child, please notify the school office by 12:30 to ensure pupil safety.
Breaks and Healthy Snacks
-
Fruit: Children in EYFS/KS1 are provided with a piece of fruit daily. KS2 children are encouraged to bring a piece of fruit or a healthy bar for break time.
-
Water: Every child should have a named water bottle in school, containing water only.
-
Milk: Milk is available for all pupils and is free for those under 5 or those eligible for Pupil Premium. Whether parent-funded or free, you will need to inform the office if you would like your child to have milk.
We work to ensure every child reaches their educational and social potential. Thank you for supporting your child’s journey by making every school day count.
