Language ARP
The school’s resourced provision for pupils with speech and language difficulties provides effective support for pupils’ learning.
To be considered for a place within this provision, a child must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that identifies speech, language, and communication as their primary need. For entry criteria & admissions, please click here.
Our dedicated Language ARP provides high-level, specialist support within our inclusive school setting, specifically and exclusively for children with Speech and Language needs.
What is a Language ARP?
An ARP is an Additionally Resourced Provision. These are specialist placements within mainstream schools for children with significant speech and/or language impairments. At our school, children in the ARP are full members of their mainstream classes, learning alongside their peers while receiving intensive, flexible Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and specialist teaching on-site.
Our Specialist Team
- Specialist Language Teacher: Provides targeted teaching and adapts the curriculum to meet individual needs.
-
Speech and Language Therapist: Delivers direct therapy and sets communication targets.
-
Specialist Support Assistants: Experienced staff who support children both in the mainstream classroom and during specialist interventions.
How We Support Our Children
We aim to develop each child’s full potential, ensuring they can communicate effectively and integrate successfully into the mainstream environment.
-
In-Class Support: Children receive support within their mainstream lessons to help them access the curriculum and work to the best of their ability.
-
Specialist Withdrawal: At times, children are withdrawn for specific work with ARP staff, which may include 1:1 speech therapy, specialist teaching, or small group work.
-
Targeted Interventions: We use specific methods such as Makaton signing and Cued Articulation to support communication.
-
Social and Language Groups: Children participate in groups to develop specific language areas (such as verbs or question words) and improve social skills like turn-taking, attention, and listening.
-
Holistic Collaboration: Our team liaises closely with class teachers, parents, and other professionals (such as Occupational Therapists or Educational Psychologists) to consider every child's needs holistically.
Working with Parents
We believe in a strong partnership between home and school to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
-
Daily Communication: We use home-school books for regular updates and questions.
-
Termly Updates: Parents are invited to "Get Togethers" each term to meet other families and find out more about the ARP’s work.
-
Aims and Reviews: Parents are involved in setting Speech and Language targets and are invited to the child’s Annual Review to discuss progress and future development.
-
Open Door Policy: Parents are welcome to observe their child working with our specialist staff and are encouraged to support their child’s development at home.
