Latest Inspection - December 2024 

King's Wood School was inspected in December 2024. Inspectors reported:

School Culture
  • Pupils are happy and safe at this vibrant school.

  • The school is a calm and purposeful environment.

  • Pupils learn about the values of trying your best and being kind.

  • Pupils are respectful towards staff and each other.

  • Pupils develop mature, considerate values.

Enrichment
  • Pupils have many opportunities to develop their talents and interests.

  • Pupils have a love of music... They enjoy learning musical instruments, including violin, drums, ukulele, recorder and keyboard.

  • Pupils access educational opportunities, such as theatre visits, school performances and choir concerts, with an increasing sense of accomplishment and confidence.

Curriculum
  • Leaders have a clear and ambitious vision.

  • In subjects such as mathematics, physical education (PE) and history, pupils learn well.

  • In history, pupils have good recall of key knowledge and can discuss ideas... confidently.

  • Pupils enjoy rich, challenging texts that help to motivate and engage them.

Early Years
  • Children in the early years make a positive start.

  • Children thrive when taking part in thoughtful activities such as making gingerbread men, kneading dough, cutting and shaping.

  • Staff develop children’s language deliberately... using words meaningfully.

  • Children develop increasing independence and readiness for their next stage of education.

Inclusion & SEND
  • The school identifies and meets the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well overall.

  • The school’s resourced provision for pupils with speech and language difficulties provides effective support for pupils’ learning.

  • Pupils say, ‘We celebrate everybody’s cultures here.'

Parents, Staff & Safeguarding

  • Staff are proud to work at the school.

  • The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

King's Wood School was inspected in March 2019. Inspectors reported:

  • Leaders have established a strong culture of nurture and ambition for all at the school.
  • Safeguarding is effective.
  • Leaders have a good understanding of the strengths and development areas of the school.
  • Teachers make good use of the strong relationships that they have established with pupils and their families.
  • Leaders have planned a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Governors use their skills well and provide strong strategic challenge to leaders.
  • The leadership of the additionally resourced provision (ARP) is highly effective.
  • Other pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) benefit from the expertise that permeates the whole school.
  • Pupils’ progress is good overall.
  • Pupils are confident, happy and proud of their school; they behave well.
  • Pupils enjoy the wide range of extra-curricular activities. 
  • Early years is led well.
  • Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the school.

Ofsted judged schools against 5 key areas:

  • Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Pupil development, behaviour and welfare
  • Outcomes for pupils
  • Early years provision

King's Wood was judged to be good in each of these areas, and therefore, the overall effectiveness was judged to be good.
